Located in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, in the heart of Médoc, Château Léoville Poyferré is one of Bordeaux’s most prestigious wine estates. Its history dates back to 1638, when the Léoville estate was one of the largest vineyards in Médoc. In 1840, it was divided into three entities: Léoville Las Cases, Léoville Barton, and Léoville Poyferré. Fifteen years later, it was classified as a Second Grand Cru in the famous 1855 classification.

Château Léoville Poyferré’s vineyard spans 80 hectares, benefiting from Mindel gravel terraces over sandy-clay subsoil. This geological diversity imparts remarkable structure, unparalleled finesse, and exceptional aging potential.

The vineyard is primarily planted with 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, resulting in balanced and complex wines.

Since 1920, Château Léoville Poyferré has been owned by the Cuvelier family, who uphold its excellence and innovation while respecting tradition. Today, Sara Lecompte Cuvelier leads the estate, continuing the pursuit of ultimate quality while integrating modern environmental challenges.

Harvesting is done manually, ensuring meticulous grape selection. Vinification is carried out with precision, followed by 20 months of aging in oak barrels, with 80% new wood, crafted in the estate’s own cooperage.

Château Léoville Poyferré is renowned for its refined and expressive wines, which begin to reveal their full potential after 10 to 15 years. Among its signature cuvées:

  • Château Léoville Poyferré: A powerful, structured wine with aromas of dark fruits, cedar, and spices, offering exceptional length on the palate.

  • Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré: The estate’s second wine, crafted from younger vines, providing a more accessible approach while maintaining the terroir’s identity.

The estate offers guided tours and tastings by appointment, allowing wine enthusiasts to explore the château’s history, vineyard, and cellars. Among the experiences offered :

  • Discovery tour

  • Panoramic tasting

  • Food and wine pairings

  • Exploration of the ampelographic garden

Located just 45 km from Bordeaux, Château Léoville Poyferré is a must-visit destination for lovers of fine wines.
