Jura Red Wines: Authenticity, Finesse and Terroir
Lesser known than its whites, Jura red wines stand out for their originality, finesse and deep connection to their natural environment. They are crafted from traditional grape varieties and reflect the region’s distinctive identity.
Local grapes: Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot Noir
Poulsard (also called Ploussard) yields light-colored, floral, and subtly spicy reds. Trousseau offers more structure and color, with notes of red fruit, pepper and mineral touches. Pinot Noir brings elegance and aromatic depth to the blend.
Unique climate and soils
With its semi-continental climate, the Jura enjoys cold winters and warm summers that allow full grape ripening. Marl, clay and limestone soils shape the subtle expression of each variety and ensure good aging potential.
Food pairings
Jura reds pair beautifully with regional dishes like poultry with morels, artisanal charcuterie, roasted vegetables or soft cheeses. Their finesse also makes them excellent companions to modern cuisine.
Between tradition and revival
The Jura wine scene is marked by a return to organic and biodynamic practices. Producers focus on respecting the soil, the grape, and the character of each wine — creating rare and highly distinctive red cuvées.
