Vieux Château Certan – Grand Cru from Pomerol

Located on the prestigious Pomerol plateau, Vieux Château Certan is one of the appellation’s oldest and most iconic estates. Founded in the 18th century by a Scottish family, it is today run by Alexandre Thienpont, who continues the estate’s tradition of excellence with precision and passion.

The vineyard spans about 14 hectares, planted on some of Pomerol’s finest clay-gravel and clay-limestone soils. The grape varieties are dominated by Merlot, which brings roundness and velvety texture, complemented by Cabernet Francfor freshness and complexity, with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon adding structure.

Viticulture is carried out with the utmost care, respecting the environment and natural vineyard balance. In the cellar, winemaking is precise and minimally interventionist, aiming to preserve fruit purity and terroir expression. Ageing in oak barrels is finely judged, enhancing depth and refinement without overshadowing the grapes’ identity.
