Although Alsace is renowned for its white wines, the region also produces elegant and discreet red wines. These rare cuvées stand out for their finesse, bright fruit and vibrant freshness, all shaped by the region’s unique terroirs between the Vosges mountains and the Rhine river.
Pinot Noir is the only red grape authorized under the Alsace AOC. It expresses itself in a variety of styles — from light, crunchy reds to more structured and oak-aged wines with deeper color and aging potential.
Alsace’s soils — limestone, granite, shale and clay — contribute to the diversity of Pinot Noir expressions. The semi-continental climate favors slow ripening, resulting in balanced, elegant and digestible red wines.
Alsace reds pair wonderfully with cured meats, roasted poultry, quiches, white meats and mild cheeses. Their delicacy makes them ideal for aperitifs or lightly chilled for warm-weather enjoyment.
Many Alsace producers work organically, biodynamically or with sustainable practices, with a strong focus on soil vitality and the authentic expression of the grape variety.
