Located on the right bank of the Loire, west of Tours, the Bourgueil AOC produces only red wines from Cabernet Franc. Depending on the soils, the wines range from supple and fruity to structured and age-worthy, always with Loire freshness and aromatic clarity.
Gravel soils produce light, fruity reds meant for early drinking. Clay-limestone hillsides yield deeper, more structured wines built to age. This contrast is at the heart of Bourgueil’s identity.
Bourgueil reds show aromas of cherry, blackberry, violet, licorice and forest floor with age. The palate is balanced, with ripe tannins, vibrant acidity and long finish — a true Loire character.
Whether bright and juicy or bold and complex, Bourgueil wines appeal to lovers of precise, terroir-driven Cabernet Franc. Many improve beautifully with age.
