Between Agen and northern Toulouse lies the Brulhois AOC — a little-known region producing intense, dark red wines nicknamed “black wines” for their deep color and richness.
Brulhois vineyards grow on gravel and clay-silica terraces along the Garonne. The warm oceanic climate ensures full ripening and concentrated fruit flavors.
Expect notes of blackberry, black cherry, pepper, licorice and cocoa. These wines are full-bodied, with firm tannins and a warm, lingering finish. Some are oak-aged for added depth and complexity.
Brulhois reds age well and pair beautifully with rich dishes. Young wines benefit from decanting to reveal their full personality.
