Cahors: The Powerful Origin of French Malbec
The Cahors AOC, nestled in the Lot Valley, is the historic cradle of Malbec (locally called “Côt” or “Auxerrois”). Its vineyards stretch across limestone slopes and gravel terraces shaped by the river.
A terroir carved by the Lot River
Gravel, clay, limestone and marl soils give Malbec the ability to express both power and elegance. The oceanic-influenced climate, moderated by limestone plateaus, allows for balanced and slow ripening.
Dark, structured and expressive wines
Cahors reds show bold aromas of blackberry, plum, violet, leather and spice. Full-bodied and firm, with well-integrated tannins and a mineral-driven finish, they reflect the depth of their terroir.
A true age-worthy red from the Southwest
Top cuvées can age for decades, while younger wines shine with a short decant. Cahors combines strength, freshness and authenticity in every glass.
Food pairings
Perfect with cassoulet, grilled ribeye, duck breast or earthy mushroom dishes. A generous, hearty wine for serious meals.
