Located in Pessac, at the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Château Pape Clément is one of Bordeaux’s oldest Grands Crus, with origins dating back to the 13th century. Gifted in 1300 to Bertrand de Goth, who later became Pope Clement V, the estate owes its name and unique aura to this illustrious heritage.
The vineyard spans about 63 hectares, resting on gravelly, clay-limestone and sandy soils that provide remarkable complexity. Red plantings are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Whites, crafted from Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris and Sémillon, are among the most celebrated in Bordeaux.
Since 1980, under the ownership of Bernard Magrez, the estate has undergone exemplary modernization, blending innovative techniques with deep respect for tradition. Viticulture follows sustainable practices with meticulous parcel management. Precise and demanding vinifications capture the terroir’s full aromatic richness and finesse.
Château Pape Clément reds are admired for their intensity, aromas of dark fruit, spice and tobacco, their velvety texture and exceptional ageing potential. The whites, elegant and vibrant, display freshness, minerality and a palette of citrus and white flowers.
An icon of Pessac-Léognan, Château Pape Clément epitomizes the perfect balance of heritage, modernity and excellence.
