The second-largest appellation in Provence, Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence stretches from Alpine foothills to the Mediterranean plains. While rosé dominates, red wines are gaining attention for their balance of southern richness and cool-climate freshness.
Dry, sunny conditions are tempered by elevation and the Mistral wind. Clay-limestone and stony soils help produce structured yet elegant reds, primarily from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Expect aromas of ripe red fruit, sweet spice, wild herbs and subtle smoky or balsamic notes. These reds age well, but remain accessible and generous when young.
Often overlooked, Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence reds offer excellent value and strong Provençal identity — ideal for Mediterranean dishes or refined cuisine.
Perfect with lamb tagine, grilled steak, homemade ratatouille or aged hard cheeses.
