Fronton: The Floral Charm of Southwest France

North of Toulouse, the Fronton AOC (formerly Côtes du Frontonnais) is known for reds made primarily from Négrette — a rare local grape with floral, spicy character. These are elegant and expressive wines.

A mix of pebbles, sand and “boulbènes”

Fronton’s vineyards grow on well-drained soils of pebbles, sand and fine clay (“boulbènes”), which help retain freshness. The climate combines oceanic warmth and Mediterranean influence — ideal for Négrette.

Soft, floral and spicy reds

Expect aromas of violet, blackberry, cassis, soft pepper and hints of licorice. On the palate, these wines are smooth and elegant with supple tannins and a refreshing finish.

Authentic and inviting

Little known outside its region, Négrette offers a unique, charming profile. Fronton reds drink beautifully young but can also age gracefully over 5 to 8 years.

Food pairings

Perfect with cassoulet, roast guinea fowl, stuffed vegetables or southern French cuisine. Also great with mild cheeses and cured meats.
