Madiran: The Bold Strength of Southwest Tannat

Located at the foothills of the Pyrenees, Madiran AOC is known for robust red wines made primarily from the Tannat grape — one of the most tannic and age-worthy varieties in the world.

A unique Pyrenean terroir

Clay-gravel soils and sun-drenched slopes produce concentrated fruit. The temperate oceanic climate, moderated by the mountains, allows Tannat to ripen fully and slowly, developing depth and power.

Structured, bold and evolving wines

Madiran reds offer black fruit aromas (blackcurrant, blackberry), along with licorice, cocoa and hints of leather or spice. On the palate, they are firm, full-bodied and tannic, softening beautifully over time.

True cellar-worthy reds

Young Madiran benefits from decanting or aging. After 5–10 years, these wines reveal remarkable complexity, combining strength, smoothness and earthy elegance.

Food pairings

Pair with hearty fare: duck confit, game, grilled ribeye or aged cheeses. A red for lovers of intensity, structure and authenticity.
