Mercurey: The Strength of Côte Chalonnaise

Located between Rully and Givry, Mercurey is the most renowned appellation of the Côte Chalonnaise. It is primarily planted with Pinot Noir, with a small production of expressive Chardonnay whites.

Full-bodied and structured reds

Mercurey reds are deep in color and rich in flavor, showing notes of black cherry, blackberry, pepper, and forest floor. The palate is robust, with integrated tannins and good aging potential.

Fresh and mineral whites

Less common, Mercurey whites are vibrant, citrusy, and mineral-driven. They offer an excellent value alternative to Côte de Beaune whites.

Diverse and generous terroir

The appellation includes over 30 Premier Cru sites. Soils vary between marl, clay and limestone, resulting in a wide range of styles — from fruity to firmly structured.

Food pairings

Reds: Ideal with duck breast, leg of lamb, or game terrine.
Whites: Excellent with seafood, creamy poultry, or aged Comté cheese.
