Sancerre Red: Loire Valley Pinot Noir with Elegance

While better known for its whites, Sancerre also produces elegant reds made from 100% Pinot Noir. Grown on limestone, flint and clay-silica soils, these wines offer freshness, subtlety and minerality.

Complex terroirs of flint and limestone

The Sancerre vineyard is built on three main soil types: caillottes (limestone), terres blanches (clay-limestone) and silex (flint). Each gives Pinot Noir a distinct profile, from bright fruit to fine structure and mineral tension.

Light, refined and linear style

Sancerre reds show aromas of cherry, raspberry, white pepper and dried rose. The palate is silky and taut, with fresh acidity and a lingering mineral finish.

Digestible and vibrant red

Rarely oaked or heavily extracted, Sancerre red is perfect for those seeking light, expressive reds — ideal young or with short cellaring.

Food pairings

Excellent with roast poultry, seared tuna, carpaccio or ash-coated goat cheese. Best served slightly chilled (14–15°C) to enhance its elegance.
