The Saumur red appellation lies south of the Loire River, near the historic town of Saumur. This key Loire Valley region produces elegant, balanced red wines based mainly on Cabernet Franc.
Saumur’s soils are rich in tuffeau — a soft limestone unique to the area — offering excellent drainage and slow ripening. This gives the wines remarkable mineral freshness and silky tannins.
Saumur reds show delicate aromas of red berries, violet, sweet pepper and earthy notes. On the palate, they’re linear, fresh and refined with a subtle chalky finish.
Often served slightly chilled, Saumur reds pair beautifully with light, plant-based or gently spiced dishes. Enjoy them young or after a few years in bottle, depending on the cuvée.
