Recognized as a standalone appellation since 1999, Viré-Clessé covers the villages of Viré and Clessé north of Mâcon. It produces only Chardonnay wines, renowned for their floral elegance, aromatic richness and natural freshness.
A limestone terroir with layered expression
The vines grow on well-exposed clay-limestone soils, often at higher altitudes. This terroir gives Chardonnay notes of ripe white fruit, acacia blossom, honey and sometimes a subtle beeswax nuance.
